Paul Woodland shows
Hi, I am Paul Woodland. I am the station manager and a presenter on Scene Radio.
How did you get into broadcasting?
20 years ago, a friend asked me to start an online radio station, so with no knowledge, 30 songs and the cheapest secondhand equipment, a week after being asked, SonRise Radio was born and I lifted my first fader. This led to me joining 90.1 Hope FM which ultimately led to me moving to Scotland, studying HNC and HND Radio, this led to Xpress Radio Scotland, which led to Scene Radio and also 107.2 Irvine Beat FM.
Random encounter with any celebrity?
When standing outside the studio of a former station in Bournemouth I was asked directions by Amanda Barrie, that was probably the most random unplanned meeting with a celebrity. There is also a photo on my Facebook of Jane McDonald and Myself, I went backstage after one of her shows in Bournemouth for champagne and canapes.
If you could interview anyone, who would it be and what question would you ask them?
The one interview I would love to do would be with the original Jane Marple, the wonderful Margaret Rutherford. Over afternoon tea I would love to chat and delve into every aspect of her career.
I grew up in the 60’s playing my Mum and Dad’s records of the 50’s & 60’s, my own early years were dominated by the 60’s and teen years by the 70’s and that has given me a broad taste in music. My favourite group growing up were ABBA. But overall my taste now is very mixed from all of the above to today’s charts, EDM, Nu Disco, Trance, techno and even a few classical such as Mozart, Beethoven and Edvard Grieg.
One surprising fact that your regular listeners may not know about you?
I was thrown off both X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. And you may not tell from my accent, but I was not born in Scotland.
